Golden Apple and Ginger Crumble

"Delicious served with fresh hot custard or cream.".

PREPARATION TIME: 10 minutes
COOKING TIME: 40 minutes
SERVES: 6

INGREDIENTS:

800g South African Golden Delicious Apples, peeled and sliced
75g caster sugar
4 tbsp ginger preserve
150g plain flour
75g butter, chilled
25g flaked almonds

PREPARATION:

Preheat the oven to 190C / 375F /Gas 5.

Put the apples in an ovenproof dish and sprinkle with a tablespoon of sugar. Cover with a lid or foil and cook in the oven for 15 minutes until the apples are beginning to soften. Add the ginger preserve and stir in gently.

Sieve the flour. Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the remaining sugar.

Spoon evenly over the apple and cook, uncovered, in the oven for 15 minutes. Sprinkle the almonds on top and cook for another 10 minutes or until the crumb and almonds are golden brown.

Serve with fresh hot custard or cream.
